DIY Facial Massage and the Incredible Benefits

DIY Facial Massage and the Incredible Benefits

April 29, 2025

If you have ever treated yourself to a facial massage at a salon then you know how wonderfully relaxing the last part of the facial is; that glorious massage.

Not only did you leave the salon feeling like you’re floating on air, as the massage eased tension you didn’t even know you were holding onto, you also marveled at how radiant and glowy your skin appeared.

If you haven't ever experienced a facial massage for yourself, then you are in luck, because we are going to help you enjoy one right at home!

Not only is a facial massage an excellent way to unwind, it’s a treat for boosting blood flow for skin that appears vibrantly healthy and you’ll notice the long-term effects with regular massage.

Here are the top benefits and how you can do it yourself, right in the comfort of your own home.

Boosts blood flow for a radiant glow

Facial massage helps to bring blood closer to the surface of the skin, which results in an instant healthy flush, better than the best blush!

Not only will you enjoy an instant rosy glow, improved circulation also helps to promote cell turnover, which in turn boosts collagen production, a structural protein essential for taut, plump skin.

The result is more youthful skin, less prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Massage also helps to open up the pores, ensuring your skincare products absorb deep into your skin.

How to do it at home:

For this one you’ll be using your index and middle fingers, and if there’s one thing we can’t stress enough, it’s to use a light touch; be gentle with your skin.

After your face is properly cleansed and toned,  pour a few drops of your oil of choice into the palm of your hand to warm it up.

Use your index and middle fingers to gently massage your face in circular motions, starting at the inside of your face and gently working your way outwards.

Always be sure to work in upward motions, as downward motions can contribute to sagging skin.

Relaxes tensed up muscles that may be aging you

We tend to tense up our facial muscles without even realizing it, and over time this can cause those forehead lines that age us.

Our forehead muscles are naturally working all day to express our various moods. Over time these muscles can tense up, and make you look permanently angry or older than you are.

The following little massage routine will help to release tension and gradually relax tensed up muscles over time, when done consistently.

How to do it yourself:

For this massage you will be using your index and middle fingers again, and it can be done at any time of the day, even with a face full of makeup!

Find a quiet place where you can breathe for a few minutes and where you won’t be disturbed. This can also be done on a clean face with your oil of choice.

To start, relax all your muscles in your face as best as you can. Now place your index and middle fingers on your temples and pull your skin taut. While your skin is taut, attempt to frown and hold this expression for ten seconds before repeating as many times as time allows!

Relaxes jaw muscles for ultimate relaxation and to help with TMJ

If you deal with a lot of jaw pain then a massage can be a great way to help.

Many of us neglect this area, or don’t think it’s as important as the rest of the face, but a jaw massage is a great way to relieve tension in the jaw, which may arise from simple stress to full on TMJ.

Simply use your index and middle fingers to massage in small circular motions along your jaw line, working your way up towards your ears.

We hope this article has inspired you to try out facial massage for yourself!
