If you want flavourful, spicy and unforgettable food then look no further than a traditional Indian meal like Biryani or Chole Bhature. Turmeric is a spice used frequently in Indian cooking. This bright, yellow spice is antibacterial antiseptic and anti-inflammatory and provides incredible health benefits from preventing cancer to lowering cholesterol. This bright spice packs a mean health punch.
Did you know, though, that turmeric is also a traditional beauty treatment in Indian culture? In fact, Indian wedding rituals are not complete until a turmeric mask has been applied to both bride and groom.
In today’s post we wanted to shine a spotlight on this sunny spice and show you how it can drastically improve the health and appearance of your skin! Stay till the end for a recipe we adore!
Benefits of Turmeric for beautiful skin
Fights inflammation
A powerful substance in turmeric called curcumin can reduce skin inflammation and relieve chronic inflammatory conditions that cause redness, itching and skin irritation such as eczema or painful blemishes.
Antioxidants keep the skin youthful
Turmeric can help to fight against the signs of aging thanks to potent antioxidants that neutralize free radicals in their tracks. It may also help to promote collagen, a structural protein essential for taut, plump skin.
Fights acne
Turmeric has antibacterial properties to help kill bacteria that contributes to breakouts.
Turmeric can also help acne sufferers by controlling oil levels in the skin thanks to fatty acids and phytosterols.

Ingredients:
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp milk
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and stir well.
- Once all ingredients are combined and you have a paste, the mixture is ready to apply.
- Before applying make sure you are wearing an old t-shirt in case it gets stained.
- Apply the mask to a cleansed skin and leave on for 10-15 minutes until the mask has dried on your skin.
-
Rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry and follow with your favourite facial oil. (You may need to use a gentle cleanser after rinsing and before applying your oil, as it may leave your skin a little yellow, but a cleanser will help to remove it).
