4 Realistic New Year’s Resolutions to Nourish Mind, Body and Soul

It’s hard to believe that another year has almost passed us by, but we are always excited for a New year, a fresh slate so to speak and endless opportunities before us, if we choose to open ourselves up to them!

A New Year is usually a time when many people set resolutions for themselves for the year ahead, and while we are all for this, often the resolutions can be quite intense and difficult to stick with, leading to disappointment in ourselves before the first month of the year is even over.

One thing we want to mention here is that Winter is actually a time to slow down, not speed up, so keep this in mind in regards to the resolutions you choose to set for yourself.

Of course it may be Summer where you are in the world, in which case your resolutions may look a little different than the sleepier parts of the world where the days are short and our bodies crave extra rest and nurturing.

We want to help you start the New Year right so here are some resolutions to guide you in the right direction. 


Start your day right

The way you start your day sets the tone for the rest of it, so starting your day right every morning can really change your whole life.

If you find yourself hitting snooze over and over before rolling out of bed and immediately brewing up a cup of joe, then chances are that you don’t feel your best.

Try to avoid snooze (we know it’s hard, but it only leaves you sluggish the entire day!) and take a few moments in bed visualizing a good day ahead and thinking of just 3 things you are grateful for. You could also journal them out.

Try to avoid going on your phone too and sip on some warm water with a squeeze of fresh lemon or ginger at least 30 minutes before coffee, tea or breakfast.


Step slowly out of your comfort zone 

Stepping out of your comfort zone doesn’t have to mean selling all your things and moving to a whole new country (unless you want to, of course!)

No, stepping out of your comfort zone simply means doing small things that you may normally say no to, simply because you are scared or want to stay in what’s familiar.

When we start doing things out of our comfort zone, it builds confidence and opens us up to so many new possibilities, as we realize there is a whole world out there and so many things to discover and explore.

So simply take a look at your life currently and see where you can make tiny changes. A good way to step out of your comfort zone is to hear yourself saying yes more!

 

Change your perspective

If you have been feeling stuck in a rut then why not change up your perspective?

Sometimes when we take a step back we see things in a new light and this change of perspective can show us the necessary changes we need to make to move forward.

One of my favorite parts of yoga are handstands and inversions, where I am able to have fun and connect to my inner child while seeing things from a new perspective, quite literally!

Of course I am  not saying you need to stand on your head, (although I will be happy to help with this!) but rather to find ways to have more fun in your life too.

Ask yourself “what did I love to do as a child?” and go ahead and do that as an adult!

Another way to actually change the neural pathways in your brain to help you see things differently is to do things differently, those mundane daily tasks we don’t think too much about, but are an integral part of our daily routine.

Use your less dominant hand to brush your teeth. Take a different route to work. Have something different for lunch.

Small changes lead to big changes and new opportunities over time. 


Stick to a simple yet effective skincare routine

If 2023 was a year of sleeping in your makeup a little too often or simply neglecting your skincare routine in any way then why not remedy that in the New Year?
