Having been a staple part of skincare routines all over the world for a few years now, it feels quite wrong saying facial oils are a fad!
They’re far more than a trend coming and gone!
With the abundance of skincare oils available though, you may still find it hard knowing exactly which oil you should use. A good rule of thumb is to always only use oils that provide the support for the skin type and conditions you know you have.
Two oils that seem to consistently come up due to their fantastic benefits are prickly pear oil and rosehip oil. Since both offer great anti-aging benefits, it could be tricky choosing between them and before we take you through why each one may be the right choice for you; we should mention that when buying skincare oils you should always check the label. The label will be able to tell you whether any fillers, fragrances, dyes, chemicals, or preservatives were unnecessarily added.
One of the more expensive oils, but for good reason! Growing in popularity all over the world, prickly pear oil is a luxurious yet super light oil that is absorbed quickly and penetrates deeply into the skin due to the high content of linoleic acid. Not greasy in any way, this oil has a naturally appealing scent to it.
Prickly pear oil is abundant in vitamin E, essential fatty acids, as well as Betalains; all of which make it ideal for aiding in tissue repair and neutralizing free radicals - in other words, addressing aging skin from deep within... no matter your age.
You can thank the high concentration of linoleic acid content (60%) for adding deep hydration at cellular level for gorgeous glowing and dewy skin.
That’s not all! Thanks for the rich blend of antioxidants, prickly pear oil also works wonders for healing and soothing acne-prone skin, without adding more oil to the skin and possibly worsening acne.
A favourite oil that has gained massive following (an oil can gain a following, right?) thanks to it’s celebrity praise from names like Kate Middleton, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Victoria Beckham.
Of course, an oil wouldn’t get such high praise if it wasn’t for it’s exceptional benefits.
Rosehip oil is a natural anti-aging superstar thanks to it’s potent blend of antioxidants including Vitamins A (stregthens the skin), C (brightens) and E (neutralizes free radicals).
Rosehip oil also helps to combat skin damage like age spots and discolouration caused by UV rays. Scars are also naturally reduced thanks to the essential fatty acids that help to improve skin’s elasticity.
Let’s not forget all about the Vitamin C in rosehip oil which helps promote the formation of collagen - reducing sagging!
So which one should I buy? If you have to choose just one and you’re in your 20’s and early 30’s wanting to prevent signs of aging before they even begin, then go with prickly pear oil. If you have already noticed signs of aging, go for the rosehip oil. But! No matter your age, you will still benefit from both.
